Week 5 Wonderments

Performing Disability in music teacher education wonderments

- Why do teachers neglect students with disabilities in music education practices?

- How can we be more inclusive?

- Music should be a place where people come together, no matter where they come from and who they are to make something beautiful.

- What are ways we can change instruments or the program so that everyone feels included?

- Why don’t people do something such as start a program is more widely accessible for those who wish to study music that have developmental disabilities or is just more widely accessible for the general public? If the issue is inclusivity, should we not create something new?

- I think its wonderful that there is a band that is made up of people with learning disabilities because it shows the general public that is possible to make something beautiful even if you are different, and I hope that can act as a beacon for everyone to create a better world where we can be inclusive on all fronts.

o It is cruel to attack them just because they disagree with them, it is such a crude and old fashioned way of thinking

- I think music is a large part of brining people together but it should not be forced upon people, music is a gift to those who want it and not a rule upon the world.

- It is because of people who thought outlandishly are we able to be the way we are today, just because something is normal now does not mean it was always normal. This is just the next step into something new, something amazing and free.

Community Music Making Wonderments

- If the issue is finding a place to continue music making after high school, why is it not normalized for community bands to let them in?

- I think its wonderful that there is such a place where people can come together and learn to make music despite their shortcomings and share it with the world.

- I hope Western and the rest of the world can follow their lead.
